1. Aren't Students Taught How To Study Effectively At School?

Some students are introduced to effective study techniques at school and as a result do develop good study habits. Unfortunately, many students do not which is why we developed these courses. Because there are some simple, quick to learn techniques which any student can use, whether going through high school or at university, to help them study more efficiently, more effectively and achieve better results.

2. Which Students Benefit Most From Your Courses?

Learning how to learn is a key skill every high school and university student should know. Which is why these courses are valuable for all students irrespective of their current situation and academic performance.

For students who may be disorganised, not know how to study properly or who are not fulfilling their true potential, our Study Skills Courses will equip them with simple, practical techniques allowing them to study in a more organised and effective way and achieve better results.

For students who are already performing well, these techniques will enable them to excel further giving them a real advantage over other students with whom they are effectively competing.

4. What Do Students Learn In These Courses?

Designed and delivered in person by Australian Memory Record Breaker and founder of Gloo, Chris Lyons, our fun and fast-paced Study Skills Courses give students the knowledge, skills and confidence to study much more effectively and get better grades.

Focused on three key areas - Memory Skills, Speed Reading and Effective Note-taking - students discover how to learn new information quickly and easily using highly effective study techniques most students are never ever shown. Students learn how to combine these three areas and apply the techniques to their day-to-day studies to overcome procrastination, study in a more organised way and achieve better results.

5. How Are The Courses Structured?

All our Study Skills Courses are broken up in to numerous short sessions of 40 to 50 minutes, each introducing one or several key study strategies or techniques. We take frequent short breaks in between to help students remain attentive and focused. The strategies and techniques introduced in the sessions build one on another with continual review and reinforcement used in a fun, engaging, non-threatening way to check learning and ensure retention of the key ideas covered.

6. What Support Materials Do Students Receive?

Students receive an A4 study skills binder which builds up through the course of the program with handouts inserted summarising the key ideas and techniques as they are discussed and activities undertaken. The binder is divided in to key sections reflecting the main techniques covered and serves as an important and easy to use review and reference document after the course. At the end of the course, they will also have an easy to follow action plan to help them practise and build upon their new skills. For Zoom courses, students receive an easy-to-print PDF in advance containing all of the handouts used as part of the day.

7. Are These Courses Suitable For Students Of All Ages?

In a word, yes. Our High School Study Skills Courses courses are designed to help students study more effectively and improve their grades regardless of their age. They are especially beneficial for students in years 10 to 12 preparing for the VCE, HSC or QCE.

That said, the earlier students are exposed to effective study techniques the sooner they can benefit from them. Which is why our courses are designed to equip students with key, lifelong learning skills and are delivered in a fun and easy-to-follow way so that students from years 7, 8 and 9 can benefit from the program just as much as students in years 10 to 12.

These study techniques are also beneficial for younger students who are not yet at high school. If you have a son or daughter who you believe would benefit from learning these techniques prior to starting high school then please Contact Us to discuss their situation.

If you are studying at university, or starting shortly, then take a look at our University Study Skills Courses specifically designed to meet your needs.

8. Which Would Work Better, A Public Course Or A 1 To 1 Program?

Our Public Study Skills Courses and our Private 1 To 1 Study Skills Programs cover the exact same content, ideas and techniques and are both delivered in person by Australian Memory Record Breaker Chris Lyons.

Open to all, our Public Essential Study Skills Courses take place in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Lismore and via Zoom each school holidays and are limited to just 12 students per workshop (only 6 students for Zoom workshops). So if the dates and locations suit you and your son or daughter is comfortable learning in a fun and relaxed, small group environment with other students then a Public Course is an ideal choice and the most cost effective option.

If the dates and locations of our Public Courses aren't convenient for you, or if your son or daughter learns best one on one, then a 1 To 1 Study Skills Course is a good choice. Available all year round and at a time of your choosing, students benefit from the flexibility and extra personal attention provided by a 1 To 1 Program.

Whichever option you choose, your son or daughter will quickly learn valuable techniques which they can begin to apply to their studies and benefit from immediately.

9. I'm A Mature Student, Would These Courses Benefit Me Too?

Very much so. Regardless of your age and what you are studying, you have to deal with lots of information you are required to read, understand and remember. Plus as a mature student It can sometimes be daunting to return to formal study after many years away. So if you are returning to study, then a University Study Skills Course will quickly boost your confidence in your studying abilities and equip you with simple, practical and highly valuable study techniques.

10. Who Delivers Your Study Skills Courses?

All our Study Skills Courses are designed and delivered in person by Australian Memory Record Breaker Chris Lyons.
